Welcome to the anti-pickleball club.
Let’s be honest: making friends in Northern Virginia is broken. If you don't want to join a mandatory kickball league, get blackout drunk in a DC club every Saturday, or drop hot dollars on fancy group travel, you are basically left rotting on your couch. This group is for your typical, progressive (left-leaning, leftist, socialist, anarchist - whatever; just a generally shared mindset), employed adults who want a mixed-gender circle that revolves around low-cost, low-energy, actual human connection. No sports. No forced corporate team-building. Just vibes.
What we actually do:
Backyard Hangs & Barbecues: Sitting outside, grilling food, playing zero-explanation party games, and having actual conversations.
Low-Effort Group Trips: Throwing a massive cooler in the car and carpooling to Delaware Seashore, Shenandoah, or the Smokies for the weekend. We aren't doing technical hiking, backpacking, or survivalist stuff here. We are putting up a tent, checking into cabins, and relaxing by the water or hot tub for cheap.
Casual Happy Hours: Meeting up at a local spot on a weeknight to unwind after work, without the intense party crowd.
And...honestly, just whatever else the group is feeling. I'm an event planner by trade, so I try to avoid it in my personal life. Book club? Karaoke? Weekly protest attendance? All fine by me!
If you are a functional, self-aware adult who understands a workweek, has a progressive mindset, and wants a friend group where you can just show up, eat good food, and talk like a normal person - welcome home!
