Why use calendar subscriptions
Calendar subscriptions give your members a reliable way to stay on top of upcoming events:
- Always current: Your group's events appear in members' calendars and refresh automatically
- Works everywhere: Compatible with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and any app that supports .ics feeds
- No account required: The feed is public, so anyone can subscribe — even people who haven't signed up yet
- Open standard: Built on iCalendar (RFC 5545), the same format used across the calendar industry
Tip: Calendar subscriptions pair well with the embeddable events widget. Use the widget to display events on your website and the .ics feed to keep them in members' calendars.
How members subscribe
The calendar subscription widget appears on your group's page. Members have two options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Subscribe .ics | Opens their calendar app and sets up an auto-refreshing subscription. Events update automatically. |
| Copy .ics Link | Copies the feed URL to their clipboard for pasting into any calendar application manually. |
Note: Calendar apps that support the webcal:// protocol (most do) will automatically refresh the feed. The default refresh interval is one hour.
What's included in the feed
The calendar feed includes your group's published, listed events. Each event entry contains:
- Event title and group name
- Start and end times with correct timezone
- Location (for in-person events)
- Event description
- A link back to the event page on Radius
Events from the past three months are included to prevent calendar apps from removing recent events. Draft, hidden, cancelled, and unlisted events are excluded.
Auto-discovery
Your group page includes a standard <link rel="alternate"> tag, which means some browsers and calendar apps can automatically detect the feed when visiting your group's URL.
